Installation Instructions for H-D Trike Rev Motor Solenoid
Item #555305
Thank you for purchasing Terry Components replacement solenoid for Harley Davidson reverse motors. We appreciate your business and will continue to strive to build quality products. Please take a moment to review a couple important notes about his product.
NOTE 1: The depth of the plunger MUST be set before installation of the solenoid. The
solenoid will NOT function if this step is skipped and is part of the maintaining warranty.
The solenoid plunger was set at the factory to 0.415”. If the plunger is too high, it will
not be in the MAGNETIC FIELD and will not be pulled in. If the plunger is too low, it
risks the chance of the reverse gear hitting the sprocket. Please adjust the height in
accordance with the included instructions (step 10).
NOTE 2: Solenoids do NOT use brushes as do the reverse motors do. As such this
solenoid does NOT include brushes.
We truly do appreciate your business. If you have any questions please reach out to us and talk with an expert.
Step 1. Loosen motor lead nut.

Step 3. Use a 5mm Allen Wrench to remove bolts securing the solenoid to the body.

Step 5. Orient spring with legs down and towards body of starter.

Step 7. Spacer installs next. There are two small holes for the spring legs.
Note: Round part of spacer orients towards starter housing. The spacer has a flat side and a beveledside. Beveled (pointed out with Allen Wrench)faces solenoid.

Step 9. Ensure plunger spring is on seat in both the solenoid and plunger.

Step 11. Tilt solenoid so plunger is away from starter housing and motor lead is close to motor. Hook plunger on Bendix arm.

Step 2. Remove Motor Lead.

Step 4. Tilt the plunger away from the body and the motor contacts towards the motor to remove the solenoid. The solenoid can then be removed from the starter body.
NOTE: Installation is easer if you can keep the spacer and spring in place when you remove the old solenoid.
If spacer and spring stayed in place go to step 8.

Step 6. Spring simply inserts into starter housing with legs down and towards body.

Step 8. Use a screwdriver to center Bendix arm on spring. This aids installation of solenoid plunger.

Step 10. It is critical to set the plunger height. This is done by holding down the plunger and bending the retaining tab.
NOTE: Failure to follow this step will leave the solenoid inoperable.

Step 12. Hold Solenoid in place and reinstall bolts.Re-install and enjoy!
